The parish church of St. Stefan stands by the road through the village. The first cornerstone was laid as early as 1755. The biggest attractions are the ceiling paintings, created in the Baroque style by painter Ivan Grohar and Gothic Madonna plastic dating from around 1490.
The Štoln mine tunnel is located near the fire station. It was made in 1905 to drain water from a lead mine in Rablje, Italy. The tunnel is 4.8 km long and was strategically important as it allowed the safe flow of troops and equipment to the Isonzo Front. The mine was closed in 1991. At the renovated entrance to the shaft, an exhibition was organized in 2005 with a historical display and a locomotive used during the operation of the mine.
The cemetery is located along the main road behind the village cemetery. In the cemetery are buried Austro-Hungarian soldiers, killed in the battles at Rombon and Čukla. In the middle of the cemetery is a monument with the image of a Bosnian and Austrian soldier. The tombs are separated by iron crosses and Islamic tombstones.
An undemanding cross-country skiing trail, which is up to 8 km long, is situated near the Bovec airport in the direction of the small Rabeljk hill.
The idyllic cross-country skiing trail in Log pod Mangartom will lead you on the most beautiful tracks right under the mighty Mangart, Jalovec and the steep Loška stena. The cross-country skiing track is about 3.5 km long.
Trenta Valley and Soča River offer a lot of opportunities for active summer vacations. If you are tempted by the rock, a visit to this climbing area is highly recommended. In addition to a compact crag, the peaceful and neat surrounding area in the middle of a forest is the main advantage of this climbing area. Beginners will enjoy this place the most, since the majority of the routes is of lower difficulty level.
If you are looking for peace and quiet when you climb, then this small local crag will be the right choice for easy summer climbing. It is located far away from the usual 'hustle & bustle' – in a beautiful mountain ambience at the foothill of Mt. Rombon. It also offers an amazing view on Bovec basin. There are mostly easy and short routes, so it is very suitable for beginners.
A lovely ski slope in the idyllic Log pod Mangartom, which is suitable for children and those who are still learning how to make turns on the snow.
Kanin is the only Slovenian ski resort with skiing terrains at the altitude of over 2000 meters. Highland atmosphere is truly unique since we are skiing right next to vertical rocks and are enjoying the views like nowhere else. Kanin’s ski slopes are linked with Italian Sella Nevea. Besides the additional ski slopes this link gives the resort exceptional diversity of terrain and snow conditions. The Bovec (South) side is generously exposed to sun whereas the Italian (North) side is slightly more shaded and tends to have more snow.
Just above Lepena valley Soča river has carved 750 meters long gorge. The gorge is completely narrow at some points and its depth depends a lot on the water level: in the dry period it is up to 15 m deep, but at floodings Soča can fill it up completely. It is a nice and short walk along one of Slovenia’s natural pearls. The color of Soča is truly incredible.
Vršič pass is the highest road pass in Slovenia and connects Kranjska Gora (Gorenjska region) with Bovec (Primorska region). The road, built by Russian war prisoners during the 1st world war, runs through the heart of Julian Alps and the views from the road simply call out for a stop-over. A short walk at the summit of Vršič pass is described here and is meant especially for those who wish to "stretch" their legs and have a meal in one of the mountain huts on the way. The walk offers an exceptionally good view of Mt. Prisojnik wall and other summits on both sides of the pass. Also suitable for children.
In the immediate vicinity of Bovec you will find the source of a cold karst creek named Gljun. Its waters come from the high Kanin mountain range and come to the surface in an interesting spring. After larger rainfalls the water literally bursts from beneath the moss-covered rocks, while in the summertime the bigger attraction is a wonderful Virje waterfall a little further downstream. Its emerald green pool just calls for a refreshing dip in the hot summer days.
